As we close out the first year of the Giving Purpose Project, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for all that we’ve accomplished together. When I began this journey, I had no experience running a nonprofit—only a leap of faith that I would be supported and a deep belief that Alexis, my daughter, would guide me every step of the way.
This year has been filled with love, kindness, and generosity. Friends, strangers, and an incredible network of supporters stepped forward to join our mission. Together, we’ve made a meaningful impact in the community. While our contributions may seem small, to those on the receiving end, they’ve been life-changing moments of joy, relief, and hope.
Our work at Interfaith Works’ women’s shelters in Rockville has brought joy and smiles to those facing immense challenges. Science tells us that laughter and play improve physical and mental well-being, and we’ve seen that truth in action. From providing pajamas, hats, and gloves for women during hypothermia season to curated care kits for new moms and babies, every act of kindness has been met with gratitude.
We’ve also provided essentials like undergarments and socks, toys for children, backpacks filled with school supplies, activity kits for kids entering foster care, and even financial assistance for car repairs to help women continue working to provide for their families.
These efforts would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors and the incredible people who have volunteered their time and energy to help bring our vision to life. To everyone who helped organize events, pack kits, or simply offered their encouragement—you’ve been instrumental in creating moments of joy and support for those who needed it most. I am deeply grateful for your selflessness and dedication.
Since many of you didn’t get to witness the joy firsthand, I wanted to share it with you. Every smile, tear of gratitude, and sigh of relief was made possible because of your contributions, both big and small. Whether you gave your time, resources, or support, you’ve helped bring light to challenging lives.
The work isn’t done—it never is. There will always be more women, children, and families who need our help. But this year has shown me the power of community and how love and kindness can create a ripple effect of hope. It has been my greatest joy to spread that love and support to others.
Through it all, I’ve felt Alexis by my side, guiding me with her love and strength. I know she will continue to light the way as we move forward.
As we step into 2025, I want to thank each and every one of you who has been part of the Giving Purpose Project. I wish you all the love, joy, and happiness the world has to offer. Together, let’s continue making a difference.
With endless gratitude,
Rachel
